Plot: Michael takes on a drug cartel for his former mentor to gain access to Fiona, who must befriend a fellow prisoner to fend off a gang leader.
The title of this episode is a very fitting description of the shows new direction.
After five seasons the crew tries to up their game. Jeffrey Donovan has moved on from simply taking directions to assuming the director role. He is also taking stabs at a type of acting that few other than the likes of Pacino, De Niro can pull off. If not done right, the drama becomes melodrama.
The season six premiere episode was extremely melodramatic. This spilled over to episode two. Fortunately less of it. The major part of episode two, “Mixed Messages”, has strong, solid scenes.
All in all, it’s a good thing to try to grow and to take creative risks in the process.
Guest stars: John C. McGinley, Taryn Manning, Anthony Ruivivar.
